HASSLE-FREE GUIDE TO TRAVELLING WITH YOUR E-CIGARETTES

If you are planning on going on a nice sunny holiday this year, then you will need to be aware that there are lots of countries that have banned the use of personal vaping devices and taking travelling with vape/e cigarette on flights may cause you some destress.

If you are travelling abroad with your device and you want to know if you can take your e-cig in hand luggage, then it is important to know which countries actually do allow vaping and if you can put your e cigs in hand luggage.

The regulations around travelling with vape/e-cigarettes to the airport and on a plane are always changing. These regulations differ from airline to airline, and from airport to airport – so, make sure you check.

When you go abroad on holiday, you must make sure that your e-cigarette batteries (vape batteries) are carried in your hand-held luggage.

All airlines require you to only carry two lithium-ion batteries - this is a very widely known airport standard.

Airport rules are very strict on e-liquids - sometimes even a tiny bottle of perfume could be taken away from you.

When you pack your e-cigarettes and e-liquids for your flight, you will need to make sure that you follow all the specific airline regulations. Unfortunately, using your e-cigarette or vape device on any airplane is a big no, no.

On some airlines, you are allowed to pack small 10ml bottles of vape juice, or e-cigs in your hand luggage. However, SMOKO would like to recommend that you pack your e-liquids in checked-in luggage and a NOT a carry-on.  You can’t vape on a plane, so what is the point, it is better to be safe than sorry.

If you do decide to take your e-liquids / refills on the flight, treat these as you would any other liquid and put them in a clear plastic bag when walking through security and check with your airline on how many bottles of liquid you can take on board.

A definite must - make sure that you do not forget to pack your charger.

There are a certain number of airports, like Hong Kong and airlines like Flybe who will not let you through with e-liquids or refills containing nicotine as (frustrating, but true) they consider them to be a poison. please check when booking your holiday - Flybe liquids.

As flight rules and regulations are under constant review and can change at any time, you need to make sure that you check with your airline regarding e-liquids aboard their planes.

Airport policies on vaping change depending on which airport you are flying from in the world and these restrictions seem to be getting worse.

If vaping is legal in the country, and the airport contains a designated smoking area then you should be good to vape there. But, any doubt, just ask!

Unfortunately, you are not allowed to take your e-cigarette on flights (as one whole device) and most airlines now incorporate the use of e-cigarettes into their pre-flight notices about smoking being band onboard.

Within the last couple of years, there was an incident involving someone who was caught vaping in the toilet aboard a plane and was given a lifetime ban on using the specific airline.

We know that vaping is very unlikely to set off the smoke alarms – but, be warned that this can honestly happen!

We can’t say this enough, but please make sure that you check out your airline policies about vaping devices, before forking out all the money on the perfect holiday!

Qatar Airways are one airline who have had people arrested and imprisoned for vaping on their flights.

You will need to make sure that you check if you are allowed to take your e-cigarettes into the country that you are travelling to (vape in hand luggage), because you could end up with a huge fine or even worse prison.

Thailand, India, Philippines, Taiwan, Argentina, Brazil, Brunei, Cambodia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Mexico, Panama, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, Uganda, Uruguay, Venezuela and Vietnam

In the UK, vaping is not banned, but the use of an e-cigarette device is definitely frowned upon in most public areas, including on public transport. You just have to be careful about where you decide to pull out your e-cigarette, as there are different rules depending on who owns the property. It is always best to ask for guidance before getting out your device!
