*2024 Update - Quit smoking with the new SMOKO VAPE POD starter kit deal today!
We've all heard that new year's resolution before - "I WILL get fit next year!". With the challenges that 2023 posed to us, many people all over the globe are reassessing their health and trying to make some healthy lifestyle changes.
It can seem like a daunting task, but there are some simple lifestyle changes that you can make to be happier and healthier in 2024. Here are some of our best ideas.
Quit smoking
Many people have been saying that they will quit the cigs for years - but the truth is, they've never had as many resources available to do so until now. Vaping is 95% less harmful than smoking traditional cigarettes, so if you're struggling with quitting smoking, transferring to e-cigs is a great idea.
Not only is smoking e-cigarettes less harmful, but it is a lot more wallet-friendly. Plus, the experience of smoking is still the same - making e-cigarettes a much easier product to move to than nicotine patches.
Increase your daily step count
Walking is one of the easiest and most risk-free forms of exercise. By gradually increasing your step count to up to 10,000 steps per day, you'll be adding some cardio to your routine, getting some fresh air, and burning some calories.
Try gradually increasing your step count by 1000 each time. If you feel tired after a particular amount, stick with that number of steps until your body becomes accustomed to it. Also, try to break up your walking over the day. You could go for one walk in the morning and one in the evening to reach your target number - it should help to improve your quality of sleep, too!
Spending time in nature
An often forgotten secret weapon for improving your mental health is to spend time in nature. Not only is there evidence that those living near areas with lots of greenery are less likely to smoke, there is also plenty of evidence showing that spending time in nature is great for our mental health!
As staying healthy requires the willpower to stick to your lifestyle changes, make sure you look after your mental health by going for nature walks, picnics or exercising in areas of natural beauty.
Drink three litres of water
Drinking water is one of the best things that we can do for our overall health. Our bodies are 60% water, after all, and this needs replenishing! Two litres of water per day is often the recommended amount, but three litres can leave us feeling even more energised, our skin with a healthy glow, and our bodies working more efficiently.
Drinking three litres also accounts for extra water lost in other everyday activities, such as going for a run or being on a hot and sweaty train.
Staying hydrated means your body has all the water it needs, and can clear more toxins from the body through sweat and urination!
Make smart alcohol choices
Most people don't want to give up alcohol entirely - and to live a healthy life, you don't have to. Try to reduce alcohol like beer and cider, which are full of sugars and empty calories. Instead, stick with light spirits, such as gin or vodka, and low sugar mixers. Red wine can be a valuable part of a healthy balanced diet too, with properties that help with heart health and digestion.
It might be easier to avoid the pub entirely, but if you enjoy visiting a pub or a bar with friends, it doesn't have to be the end. These establishments, coupled with alcohol, often leads to other bad choices - like lighting up a cigarette!
If you need a helping hand fighting the increased urge to smoke, then arm yourself with an e-cigarette today!
Follow the 80/20 rule with dieting
Any kind of restrictive diet is a recipe for disaster. You are unlikely to stick to a diet that completely eliminates chocolate and ice cream, and will end up binging and piling the weight back on. Instead, try to eat healthy foods - vegetables, fruit, complex carbs and proteins - MOST of the time, and let yourself have whatever you want - be that cake, chocolate, or crisps, the other 20% of the time. This is the best way to build a sustainable diet.
