HOW TO FIX E-CIGARETTE PROBLEMS
If you are experiencing problems with your E-Cigarette, check the manufacturer’s instructions and the brand’s website for a solution. If your device isn’t charging, ensure you are using the manufacturer’s charge cable and clean the charge port as dust can build up and prevent a proper connection. Watch for any error messages like ‘check atomizer’ or a funny taste that may indicate an issue with your coil set up.

We have created this great troubleshooting guide for you to refer to if you have any issues with your SMOKO Electronic Cigarette, VAPE or other vape devices.
Switching to e-cigarettes and vape should be a satisfying and enjoyable vaping experience. Every once in a while you may have an issue with your vaping kit. It may be frustrating but many of the most common problems can be resolved very quickly and easily. In this handy Vaper’s Guide to E-Cigarette Problems and How to Fix them, we will address as many of the most common issues and provide some solutions to get you vaping again!
So next time you have a glitch when you vape, come back to this list to sort things out!
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR E-CIGARETTE BATTERY ISN’T BEING CHARGED
FOR THE SMOKO E-CIG - If your e-cigarette battery doesn’t seem to be charging, there are few things to check. Firstly, when you screw the battery into the USB charger and plug it into a USB Port, the RED light should glow on the USB Charger and the BLUE light should turn on. If this is happening, then your e-cig battery should be charging. It will take up to 2 hours to fully recharge.
If the RED light is on your USB but the BLUE light is NOT glowing at the end of your cigalike battery, then the charge is not getting through to your battery. Unscrew the USB Charger, clean both the USB Charger and the Battery with a tissue or cotton bud to remove any residue or dust. Also, check that the inner terminal (little round silver disc) on the USB Charger has not been pushed down. If it has, simply uses your fingernail to lift up the terminal by a few millimetres by slowly twisting the USB Charger in one hand while gently levering the silver terminal upwards until it is slightly above the outer ring.
Reattach the battery to the USB and plug it into a USB Port. Both the RED and the BLUE lights should now be on!
FOR THE SMOKO VAPE - problems with your vape battery charging? Have a look at the connection. When it is charging correctly, the GREEN light around the end of the VAPE battery should glow on and off. If this isn’t happening, try cleaning the connection between the USB Charging Cable and the battery or try a different micro USB charging cable. HOW TO FIX 'NO ATOMIZER' OR 'CHECK ATOMIZER' FOR E-CIGARETTE?
The beauty of both the SMOKO E-Cigarette and SMOKO VAPE is they are designed to be really simple and uncomplicated. With a lot of vape mods or refillable devices that have a display screen, you may start getting a burnt taste and then a message saying there is “no atomizer” or prompting you to “check atomizer”.
If this happens, we would suggest that you review the instruction manual that came with your vape kit, unscrew the atomizer and reattach it and then turn your device on and off. If that doesn’t resolve the problem of the NO ATOMIZER or CHECK ATOMIZER message, then you may need to contact the vape shops you purchased the device.
Like cars, many vape pens and larger mod boxes have become too overengineered in our opinion. More parts, more circuits and more technology can lead to more issues that are not a simple fix and will require a specialist to assist.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR E-CIGARETTE SAYS “CHECK BATTERY,” “BATTERY LOW” OR “LOW POWER?”
We wanted to design the SMOKO E-Cigarette and VAPE starter kits to be super simple and easy to use. Our vapes do not have a display screen as we think vaping can get over complicated.
However, if you are using a larger vape mod that has a display and you get the message “CHECK BATTERY”, “BATTERY LOW” or “LOW POWER”, we would suggest that you review the instruction manual that came with your vape starter kit.
If you receive the “BATTERY LOW” or “LOW POWER” messages, we would suggest that you try to recharge the battery following the manufactures’ instructions. This usually means plugging the vape battery into a USB port.
If you received the message “CHECK BATTERY”, we would suggest removing the battery if it is removable and checking the connections are clean and free of residue or dust.
A vape that needs to be recharged will most likely have a lower vapour production. If recharging it doesn’t work, you may need to contact the vape website you purchased the device from.
HOW DO I USE E-CIGARETTE BATTERIES SAFELY?
With any electrical device that uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, you should always follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer. With the SMOKO E-Cigarette and VAPE, we would always suggest you follow these simple instructions to ensure you are using your batteries safely.
Never Overcharge Your E-Cigarette Batteries - It may seem obvious, but do not leave your vape or e-cig batteries on charge beyond the recommended time. For our e-cigarette batteries, they should recharge within 2 hours. For our vape lithium-ion batteries, they should be fully recharged within 45 to 60 minutes. Leaving batteries on charge for too long may affect their useful life.
Keep Your Batteries Clean and Dry - with frequent use, you may see some residue or dirt build up on the connection ends of your e-cig or vape batteries. Give them a clean with a cotton bud or tissue every time you recharge them. We also recommend that you keep your batteries from getting wet and store them in a dry and cool place. If they do get wet, we would recommend letting them naturally dry out for 24 hours before you try using them again.
Always Recharge With The Supplied USB Chargers and Adaptors - all of our USB chargers, USB charging cables and UK mains adaptors have been designed to be used with the vape batteries. We do not recommend using 3rd party chargers or adaptors that have not been tested on our products. This can cause permanent damage to your vape kits and may void any warranty.
WHAT IF I DON’T LIKE AN E-LIQUID?
There are a few reasons why you might not be getting on with your vape juice. Assuming that your vape kit is working properly, these are some of the common reasons you might not like the flavour of an e-liquid.
Too Much PG Ratio - Propylene Glycol is one of the main ingredients in most e-liquids. It provides the throat hit and creates a realistic smoking sensation. If you are using a larger box mod or vape kit, you may find that a higher PG ratio in your vape juice could be too much, causing irritation and coughing. Try switching to an e-liquid with a higher VG (Vegetable Glycerine) concentration.
My Vape is not Strong Enough - for many people switching to vaping for the first time, they may have purchased a larger device and an e-liquid with a higher VG ratio and lower nicotine strength. Most vape shops that sell the larger devices will suggest a higher VG (Vegetable Glycerine) vape juice. This will give you more vapour production and bigger clouds, but the lower the nicotine strength may leave your cravings unsatisfied. So you may want to try a smaller vape or cigalike that uses a higher nicotine strength with a great PG ratio in your e-liquid.
Buy Good Quality E-Liquids - many people may look to buy the cheapest e-liquids they can find to save even more money. But buying cheap e-liquids is not advisable if you want a great vaping experience.

You may pay a bit more for our e-liquids or e-cigarette refills, but there are some things in life that you should never compromise on - the food you eat, the water you drink and the quality of your vape juice and e-cigarette refills!
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR E-CIGARETTE DOESN’T PRODUCE VAPOR?
You may experience a situation where you put a fresh vape refill onto your battery but nothing comes out with your draw on it. If this occurs, there are a few quick fixes you can try.
With the SMOKO E-Cigarette - first thing is to make sure your battery is fully charged. Then, check to see if the 2 little terminals on the bottom of your cigalike refill have not been pushed down below the outside silver ring. If they have, try to lever the terminals up slightly with either your fingernail or a pen. You will want the terminals to be about 1 to 2mm above the silver ring. Try attaching the refill onto your battery and give it another go.
With the SMOKO VAPE starter kit - if your vape battery is fully charged but you are not getting any vapour, you may want to try the same “wiggle” trick mentioned above. Unscrew your vape refill and look to see if the small terminal has been pushed down below the silver ring. If it has, use your fingernail and gently lift the terminal upward by 1mm to 2mm. Be careful not to pull the terminal out completely. Reattach to your vape battery and try again.
If neither of these tricks work, try another refill. If the problem still persists, try a different battery. If you are still not getting any vapour, feel free to give us a call on 0800 772 0234 and we will be happy to assist.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR E-CIGARETTE IS LEAKING?
With our pre-filled e-cigarette and vape refills, there is rarely any leaking at all. If this does happen, open up a fresh refill and check again.
Some people may experience some condensation in the vape chimney (the central tube on your vape refill). If this happens, simply “flick” the refill to clear any excess condensation or extra e-liquid. This could be a quick solution if your vape is leaking.
For other refillable vape pens and vape mods, we would suggest you review the instruction manual that you received when you first purchased your vape starter kit. You may have an issue with one of the O-rings or the seal between the tank and the atomizer. Double check that everything is tightened properly and try again. If the leaking still continues, give the vape shop a call and ask for more assistance.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR E-CIGARETTE IS GURGLING OR SPITTING?
If your larger vape mod or tank seems to be gurgling and spitting, there are a few things you can try.
Firstly, give your vape the “flick” over a sink or outside. There may be some excess e-liquid or condensation that has built up in the vape chimney.
If it is gurgling, try turning the power setting up slightly. This will give the atomizer a bit more power which should vapourize the e-liquid a bit better. You may also want to try drawing on your vape a bit slower. If you draw too quickly or too deeply, the e-liquid may not have had enough time to properly vapourize.
If your refillable e-cigarette is spitting, then you may want to check the coils. Open up the tank, empty the e-liquid and then remove the coil. Give everything a really good clean with a tissue and cotton bud. Reassemble your tank, add more vape juice and then activate the firing button.
If neither of these vape tips works, best to get in contact with the vape shop you bought the device from.
With both the SMOKO VAPE and E-Cigarette, you will rarely have issues with your vape spitting or gurgling. This is another benefit of using small closed system MTL devices.
WHAT IS A DRY HIT AND HOW TO AVOID IT WHEN VAPING?
When using larger mod boxes or sub ohm vape kits, you may experience a dry hit after you put on a new atomizer or coil. This means that there is not enough e-liquid getting into the atomizer. Try priming your vape coil by adding a few drops of vape juice to the atomizer and wick.
WHY DOES MY VAPE TASTE BURNT?
There are 2 main reasons why your vape may taste burnt. The first thing to check is to ensure there is enough e-liquid in the tank. Trying to activate your vape with no e-liquid in the device will result in a burning taste. Add some more vape juice and try it again.
The second main reason your vape may taste burnt is an indication that your coil or atomizer may need replacing. These “heating elements” need to be replaced on a regular basis in larger vape boxes and refillable pod kits. Try changing your coil with a brand new one and then refill your vape with your favourite e-liquid and try it again.
If you continue to get a burnt taste, you may want to call your vape shop for some more advice.
With the SMOKO E-Cigarette or VAPE refills, you may get the odd refill that tastes burnt. Try a new refill and see if the problem continues. WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY E-CIGARETTE FEELS HOT?
With any electrical device, sometimes the battery may start to feel hot. If this happens with your vape or e-cigarette battery, we would suggest that you unscrew the refill and set the battery aside. Try using the battery on a new refill. If that works and the battery is no longer getting hot, then you are good to go. If it doesn’t work, then you may want to try a new battery.
We recommend that you replace your batteries on a frequent basis - every 3 months or so - to ensure you get the very best vaping experience.
WHY IS MY THROAT SORE AFTER VAPING?
Many people who vape may experience a sore throat. There could be a number of reasons why this may be happening.
Are You Vaping Too Much - the main cause of a sore throat when you vape or Vaper’s tongue (loss of taste) is you may be vaping too much? Try using your vape less, set it down between sessions or even give it a break for a few hours.
Drink A Lot of Water When You Vape - it is important to drink lots of water if you are vaping. The Propylene Glycol (PG) in e-liquid can dehydrate you and could lead to a sore throat when you vape.
Try A Lower Power Setting - if your sore throat continues and you are using a larger vape mod with adjustable power settings, you should definitely turn the power setting down. You could be taking in too much vapour and this can affect your throat.

E-CIGARETTE PROBLEMS AND HOW TO FIX THEM - CONCLUSION
It is important to remember that smoking cigarette is one of the worst things that you can do for your health, your standard of living and your wealth. Cancer Research UK suggest that “e-cigarettes are far less harmful than smoking. Most of the toxic chemicals in cigarettes are not present in e-cigarettes.” So making the decision to give up smoking and try e-cigarettes will be a step in the right direction.
