We all know how bad smoking is for you, but for a lot of us we needed that extra push to get us to do something about it.
For some that is a New Years’ Resolution, but for others it can be seeing an ad trying to get us to stop. How effective they truly are is up to debate, but studies have shown that ad campaigns are still one of the most cost effective ways to get people to think about smoking.
Today we have collected some of the more interesting ones, which try to aim at all aspects of smoking (not just the pesky death part).
The image in the thumbnail and above is all about how smoking gradually deteriorates your skin and body, making you look much older than you are.
Over the years smoking can cause a huge amount of premature ageing. Many of the 4,000 chemicals in cigarettes can damage collagen and elastin. These are fibres that give your skin its strength, elasticity and basically make you look young.
As a result, skin begins to sag and wrinkle prematurely because of smoking. If you really want to see what smoking can do look at the difference between twins, ones who smoke and ones who don't.
#5 Toothless
Smoking hurts your teeth in a few ways, the most obvious one is that yellow tint you get. This is the actual tobacco and tar leaving their mark on your teeth. But smoking is actually even worse than that.
When you smoke you are twice as likely to get gum disease and when you get gum disease smoking makes it much worse. This puts you at risk of losing a tooth! It’s a terrible cycle which can quickly spiral out of control.
The good thing is that e-cigarettes don’t have tar or tobacco in them, so there is no danger of yellow teeth or disease!
#4 Speachless
Smoking can cause a huge amount of damage to your vocal cords, not only does the smoke itself damage it but smoking can cause acid reflux, which can further damage the vocal cord. Added to that the damage done to your lungs it can in extreme cases rob you of your voice altogether.
E-cigarettes don’t have smoke, so they don’t cause damage to your throat as you use them!
#3 Weightless
When you hear the warnings about smoking and cancer, we have a black and white view. You either die from it or you don't. But that is not always the case, when smoking causes cancer it might not kill you, it may just leave you with less then what you had before.
If you want an alternative that doesn’t have the 4000 ingredients or 50 known carcinogens we have a great starter kit for you to try!
#2 Social Smoker
This is one of the more common excuses we hear, that they aren't really smokers they just smoke when they have had a few glasses. The problem though is when you drink you forget exactly how many you have had.
It might not be as bad as smoking everyday, but all those cigarettes you don't quite remember have an effect.
Want something that you can use even in the pub (and not just outside in the cold?) Why not try our starter kit?
#1 The End
It's pretty much impossible to talk about smoking without mentioning that smoking is directly linked to a shorter life.
In fact smoking is the number one preventable cause of death in the world. One study has said that every time you smoke you shave up to 11 minutes of your lifespan!
For someone who smokes 20 cigarettes a day for 40 years – that equates to 292,000 cigarettes in your life. Multiply that by 11 minutes, that is 2,230 days that you could be shaving off your life!
So if you are still smoking and some of these ads from around the world have got you thinking, why not make the switch?
