Things To Remember When Switching From Smoking To Vaping

Millions of people in the UK have successfully used E-cigarettes to get get away from cigarettes, but there are some common pitfalls that can stop you from getting the most out of your e-cigarette. Today we are looking at the most common things you should keep in mind when switching from smoking to vaping.

 

Here at SMOKO we believe there will be a perfect e-cigarette for you, but it won't necessarily be the one you originally wanted or even the one you try first. After all smokers don't all use the same brand of cigarettes, so why would every vaper use the same brand of e-cigs?



A different feeling (and method)

First, the feeling of vaping is slightly different from that of smoking. Due to the fact that vapour is only made from 4 ingredients rather than the 4000+ chemicals in smoke, vapour can affect smokers differently.

 

In fact most cigarettes contain sugar and other chemicals to make the smoke a bit smoother on the throat. That's why even long term smokers may cough the first time you try an e-cigarette if you are used to smoking traditional cigarettes.

 

But it's not just what's in the vapour that makes it feel different to smoke, as vapour is basically water it is absorbed slightly different to smoke and so you might need a different way to inhale it.

 

The good news is you don't have to change much to get the most out of your e-cigarette, there is just a slightly different technique to inhaling with an e-cigarette.

 

Puffing harder on a cigarette creates more smoke, but this isn't the case with an e-cigarette. To get the most out of your e-cigarette keep the vapour in your lungs a bit longer than you would with smoke. This gives the vapour more time to be absorbed by your lungs and so gets more nicotine into your body.

With a cigarette, you can get a nicotine hit instantly, but with vaping it can take longer. However, vaping creates longer satisfaction. If vaping doesn’t satisfy the craving at first, try waiting a little while before trying again. Eventually, you’ll be able to adapt to the change.

 

Persistence is key!

Though SMOKO E-cigarettes are designed to be as close to a cigarette as we could make it you do still need the motivation and drive to make the switch. After all you’re trying to change a habit that you have maintained for most of your life!

 

Some people can switch immediately from traditional to e-cigs, but for others it might take a while as they slowly change their habit over time.

 

We suggest that at least at first you stick as close to the habits you had with cigarettes, just swapping out a cigarette for a few puffs on your e-cigarette. That means at least for the first week or two still go outside with your e-cig and don't vape for more than a couple of minutes. By doing this you can help your mind get used to the e-cigarette and start to associate it with your nicotine fix.

 

Don't be put-off by overdoing it

With vaping the way you get your nicotine will be different than from cigarettes.

 

Unlike with cigarettes, you’ll be able to use your e-cigarette whenever you need it, without having to light up every time. As the vapour from an e-cigarette isn't harmful there is no such thing as 2nd hand vapour, so it is safe to vape near other people. Add to this that vapour doesn't smell or stain like smoke and many e-cig users start to vape inside.

 

However as there is nothing to stop you from vaping whenever and wherever you want this means it’s easy to overdo it! Just like when you smoke too many cigarettes you can experience the same side effects as with an excessive amount of cigarettes. Such effects include; headache, dizziness or nausea.

 

If you feel at all unwell, stop and wait until the side effects have passed. It will take roughly the same amount of time as with cigarettes. If this happens continually, your nicotine might be too strong and it might be a good idea to move down the strengths.

 

 

E-cigarettes are one of the easiest ways to make the switch away from cigarettes, from the same taste to the feel of the vapour and the hand to mouth action. However E-cigarettes are not cigarettes and the differences that make e-cigs 95% less harmful than cigarettes also will make them feel a bit different to long term smokers.

 

By knowing this as you go into your attempt you can make sure you have the best chance of finally getting away from tobacco!
