Busting Common Myths Surrounding E-cigarettes

Ever since the introduction e-cigarettes, these little devices have helped smokers across the globe beat their habit and change their lives for the better.

Despite being a 95% less harmful alternative (according to Public Health England) for smokers, a number of myths have popped up surrounding e-cigarettes.

If you’re thinking of taking up vaping and improving your health, we’ve busted some common myths below so you can make the switch to E-Cigarettes with peace of mind.

Myth #1. E-cigarettes are just as harmful as traditional cigarettes

Study after study has shown that e-cigarettes are much safer than cigarettes.

In fact Public Health England, the UK government's health body, stated that e-cigarettes are at least 95% less harmful than cigarettes!

Cancer Research UK also advocates e-cigarettes as an alternative to smoking, especially as a study conducted by them showed that a e-cigarette user has 97% less toxins in their body than a smoker.

Here at SMOKO we make sure that all our liquids are made in the UK and are tested above and beyond the current laws. We also make sure all our hardware is set to a low voltage so there is no chance of overheating the liquid.

Through these measures and more we make sure that E-cigarettes are as safe as possible, and as Public Health England and Cancer Research UK have said, they are much better for you than cigarettes!

Myth #2. Passive vaping will harm those around me

As vapour from an e-cigarette and smoke from a cigarette look similar (they are designed to be after all!) the idea of 2nd hand danger naturally pops up.

However there is a huge difference between vapour and smoke, namely vapour can't hurt you.

One of the main reasons that E-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than cigarettes is because E-Cigs don't contain the 4000+ chemicals and 50+ carcinogens that cigarettes do. That means the chemicals and cancer causing elements that make 2nd hand smoke so dangerous (like arsenic, tar and cyanide) aren't in e-cigarette vapour.

But don't just take our word for it, the NHS also says the same thing

Even better, most E-Cigarette vapour is odourless, so you won't get the smell of state smoke in your hair or clothes if you stand near a smoker!

Myth #3: E-cigarettes are at high risk of exploding

You’ve probably seen headlines over the years of people saying that their e-cigarette batteries exploded.

This can seem worrying, but there is no need to panic as these are extremely isolated cases. In the UK alone there are over 3 million e-cigarette users who use batteries every day without issue, and if you treat your e-cigarette like you would your smartphone or laptop you will be fine.

That is because the batteries in e-cigarettes are exactly the same ones that you find in all your other technology, called lithium ion batteries. These batteries have been tested and proven to be safe for over 25 years and can be found in literally every single re-chargeable item you have.

If you are still unsure how to keep your e-cigarette safe follow these three rules. Firstly make sure to use the charging equipment designed for the battery. Secondly don't use a battery you have damaged, that includes not; piercing the battery, submerging it underwater or crushing it. Lastly don't but the cheapest battery you can, as they will not have the same testing and safety equipment.

To sum this up. if you treat your e-cigarette in the same way as you would your phone or laptop then you will have no issues.

Myth #4: Vaping is even more addictive than smoking

Whilst e-cigarettes do indeed feature nicotine, an addictive substance, the amount of nicotine they deliver is the same or lower than a cigarette.

But cigarettes are not addictive just because of the nicotine, chemicals such as Nitrogen Oxide or the sugar added all create a cigarette that is designed to get you addicted and keep you addicted.

In fact cigarettes have become more and more addictive over the last 50 years, and not because of the nicotine!

What’s more, users can actually control how much nicotine they vape. Unlike cigarettes, all e-cigarettes have a clear and distinct strengths on them. Not only does this let you know what you are getting, but enables  you to adjust and lower your nicotine intake over time.

For example if you went for our Original E-Cigarette refills you could start with the 2.0% strength, and work your way down to zero nicotine!
